Dear Neighbor,
As Americans, we feel strongly about keeping our communities safe from gun violence. In Houston, we know the toll of gun violence: from road rage incidents that have taken the lives of a high school student and a pastor, to the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School, to the shootings on Memorial and Wesleyan, to domestic violence.
People in TX-07 are deeply concerned about gun violence, and it’s one of the top issues I hear from constituents about on the phone, by email, and in letters.
Since 2019, I have co-sponsored and voted for legislation to close the “boyfriend loophole” and strengthen background checks. After the tragedy in Uvalde, I was glad to see people from both sides of the aisle work together to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which President Biden signed into law this month.
Our work to prevent gun violence continues, and I want to hear from you. On Monday, July 25, at 6:00 p.m. at Bayland Community Center, I’m hosting a Town Hall on Gun Violence joined community leaders who work every day to promote gun safety: Houston Police Chief Troy Finner; Cedric Dark, MD, MPH, FACEP; and Moms Demand Action Former Volunteer Texas Chapter Lead, Norri Leder. And I hope you’ll join us too. You can RSVP by clicking here or on the graphic below.
