Dear Neighbor,

This has been an eventful week across the country and at home here in Houston!  We broke records in Houston and Texas this election, with 66 percent of registered voters casting their ballots and making their voices heard.  This is the highest turnout our state has seen since 1992.  Here in Harris County, our county clerk and our election officials did a great job working around the clock to make sure the voting process was safe and efficient -- and to make sure that every vote counted.

Voting is the foundation of our democracy, and engagement with those we elect between elections is also vital.  I hope you will continue to communicate your thoughts with me and my team at all times, and you’ll find information on how to do so below.

On that note, you should have received an email that next Sunday, November 15 at 7:00pm, I will host a Telephone Town Hall with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Harris County Flood Control District to discuss the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study Interim Report.

The Interim Report (available here) evaluates multiple plans to reduce flood risk and manage water conveyance in our district and in our region, including along Buffalo Bayou and in the Addicks and Barker Reservoirs.  These are crucial matters for our community.  The Corps is currently accepting public comments on the Interim Report, and I want to hear from you about your response to the alternative proposals.

You can RSVP here or by clicking the link below.

And another important reminder that COVID-19 remains persistent in our region and in our country.  On Thursday, the U.S. surpassed 100,000 new cases in a single day for the first time.  Texas cases are increasing as well.  Here in Harris County, our COVID-19 positivity rate is at 8.2 percent, and total cases have increased to more than 167,000.  28,700 of those cases are active cases.

Our local experts expect cases to increase as we approach winter.  It’s important for all of us to continue to wear masks, keep our distance, and avoid large crowds.

You are always welcome to share your thoughts and concerns with me and my team – and we are here to help in all the ways we can.  Please let us know how we can!  You can email here, or call my office at (713) 353-8680 any time.

Best wishes,
