Dear Neighbor,

After Hurricane Harvey, many homeowners completed repairs to their homes with the understanding that they may be eligible to apply for reimbursement through the Homeowner Assistance Program, administered by the City of Houston.

If you are one of those homeowners and still need to apply for reimbursement for completed and eligible home repairs, the deadline to submit applications is quickly approaching.  Homeowners have until Thursday, December 31, 2020 to complete and submit the six-page application.

Information about this program and the application can be accessed by visiting https://recovery.houstontx.gov/hoap/.  The completed six-page application may be submitted in one of these ways:
  • E-mail: housingrecovery@houstontx.gov
  • In-person: 2100 Travis St., 9th Floor, Houston, TX 77002
  • Mail: Disaster Recovery, 2100 Travis St., 9th Floor, Houston, TX 77002

If you have already completed and submitted an application, the City will continue to process your application accordingly.  For updates on your application status, you can contact housingrecovery@houstontx.gov.  Any questions for the City’s Homeowner's Assistance Program can be directed to 832-393-0550.

Because the program is administering federal funds, I have called on the U.S. Department of House and Urban Development (HUD) to extend the deadline to accept applications.  Until we hear back on this request, however, I urge you to complete the application before the current deadline of December 31, 2020.

I hope you will find this information helpful, and if you know anyone else who could be eligible, please be sure to share this reminder.  My office is available to help answer any questions you may have on this process or on the application.  Feel free to email us here or call us at (713) 353-8680 any time.

Best wishes,
