How do I register to vote?

The last day to register to vote for the November 5, 2024 election is October 7, 2024.  If you do not register to vote by this date, you are ineligible to vote in this election.


How do I apply by mail-in ballot?

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

  • be 65 years or older on Election Day;
  • be sick or disabled;
  • be out of the county on Election Day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance;
  • be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or
  • be confined in jail or involuntary civil commitment, but otherwise eligible.

When is early voting?

Early voting runs from October 21, 2024 to November 1, 2024.

 

What identification is necessary for in-person voting?

If you possess one of the following forms of acceptable photo identification, you must present it when voting in person:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS);
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS;
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS;
  • Texas Handgun License issued by DPS;
  • United States Military Identification Card containing your photograph;
  • United States Passport (book or card); or
  • United States citizenship certificate containing your photograph

If you do not possess an acceptable form of photo identification and cannot reasonably obtain one, you must present a supporting form of photo identification and execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration, noting your reasonable impediment to obtaining an acceptable form of photo identification. Where can I vote in-person?

The Harris County Clerk has posted all early voting and Election Day locations here. 

The Fort Bend County Elections Administrator has posted all early voting locations here and Election Day locations here.

Both Harris and Fort Bend County voters are free to vote at any polling location in their respective county during early voting and on Election Day. Hours of operation for individual voting locations can be found at the links above.

What are the poll hours on Election Day?

Election Day polling sites are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Is there straight party voting?

No. The straight-party voting option (straight-ticket) is no longer available, due to a bill Governor Greg Abbott signed in 2017.
