In 2019, my very first community conversation brought together public officials and our neighbors to discuss flooding and its impact on our region. Over the past few years, I have continued hosting these conversations, where we have discussed the progress on the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study, changes to the National Flood Insurance Program, and the very real effects Hurricane Harvey continues to have on our neighbors.
In 2022, flood mitigation remains a priority here in TX-07. Last month, I was so glad to announce that I secured nearly $10 million for the Meyergrove Detention Basin on behalf of Harris County Flood Control District. And when I asked about issues readers would like to discuss in future conversations, flood mitigation was again at the top of the list.
That’s why I’m glad to host a Community Conversation on Flood Mitigation and Recovery on Thursday, April 14, at 6:00PM. I will be joined by U.S. Army Corps Galveston District Commander Colonel Timothy Vail and incoming District Commander Colonel Rhett Blackmon, Harris County Flood Control District Deputy Director of Engineering and Construction Alan Black, and City of Houston Chief Recovery Officer Steve Costello. I look forward to our continuing conversation!
