Dear Neighbor, It’s been great to be home for this first district work period of the new Congress. Our Houston team has been getting settled into our new office. Many people visited our Houston office (or saw the sign) over the last four years, but that location is no longer in the district. So, we have a new central Houston office at 3700 Buffalo Speedway in the Greenway Plaza area. We will also have a second office in Sugar Land, and work is underway to get it ready to open soon! My team and I look forward to welcoming constituents to our new offices!

I appreciated the many opportunities to visit with people across the district this week!
I was glad to join community leaders at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center in Sugar Land for a farewell luncheon honoring Consul General of Pakistan in Houston, the Honorable Abrar H. Hashmi, where I recognized his contributions in our community and country over the last few years before he sets off on his next assignment.

On Saturday, I joined City of Houston leaders and leaders and residents in Alief to celebrate the grand opening of the Alief Community Center. This milestone was a testament to community advocacy, leadership, and partnership. I was glad to join Mayor Turner and Houston City Councilmember Tiffany Thomas to say a few words, and many more councilmembers and leaders to cut the ribbon and open the doors.

I was glad to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this week with community members and leaders at the downtown Houston celebration and the NAACP breakfast in Fort Bend, honoring the man, the movement, and the mission and committing ourselves to continuing the work.
|
Over the course of the week, I visited many of our local elected officials in their offices to hear their thoughts and priorities and to visit about how we can work together for TX-07 residents. Tuesday took me to Fort Bend County, where I met with County Judge KP George, County Commissioner Grady Prestage, and County Commissioner Dexter McCoy.

On Thursday, I met with Southside Place Mayor Andy Chan, West University Place Mayor Susan Sample, and Bellaire Mayor Andrew Friedberg to talk priorities and projects we are working on together.
|
Also on Thursday, I cut the ribbon on the Buffalo Speedway Project with West University Place Mayor Susan Sample, City Council Members and other community leaders, celebrating the reopening of Buffalo Speedway from Bissonnet to Bellaire and the major drainage improvements. I am proud to represent West U in Washington and to partner with community leaders to bring improvements to the city. I secured $9.8 million in federal funding for Poor Farm Ditch conveyance improvements, which will build on the important drainage improvements in the Buffalo Speedway Project, in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 in December.

And if you are wondering where I was on Wednesday, I was doing a different kind of duty – jury duty! While I was not selected to serve on a jury panel, I was glad to show up to serve and had a nice visit with other prospective jurors in Harris County’s restored jury assembly room.

As we head into the weekend, I am glad to join the many families in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District in celebrating the Lunar New Year. As a proud member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I send warm wishes for a Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate. May this year bring joy, patience, and luck!
