Dear Neighbor,

Once again, it was great to be in Houston and visit with neighbors across TX-07 this week. It was an eventful one! I am back in Washington, D.C. tonight, where we will continue the work of the 117th Congress and begin organizing for the 118th Congress.

I am honored and proud to have been elected to represent Texas’ Seventh Congressional District again in the 118th Congress, which begins on January 3, 2023.

It was great to start the week with the Astros World Series Parade to celebrate our World Series champs! I loved seeing so many people from across the community downtown celebrating, and was thrilled to be able to join in the celebration!

And we closed the week honoring our veterans on Veterans Day. So many of our neighbors in TX-07 have answered the call to serve and have done so with honor in our country's armed forces. I am grateful for your service and proud to represent you.

Stephani on our team attended a ribbon cutting for the Houston Vietnam Fallen Warriors Monument on behalf of our district.

Over the last few weeks while I was home, I heard from so many people who appreciated the work our team has done to help them with their cases before federal agencies. I am so proud of their excellent work, and want to be sure you know that our office has a team of constituent advocates who can assist TX-07 residents resolve issues with federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration, the Small Business Administration, and more.

Recently, Sara on our team helped TX-07 resident Luset R. who was experiencing an issue with the Department of State. Luset sent the following message, which I’m glad to share:

“I reached out to Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s Office to help me get my Certificate of Naturalization back, which l had sent to the National Passport Processing Center so that I could get a new passport. At the time of my application for the new passport I was told at the Passport Application Center that the supporting document was going to be mailed within 15 days after I received my passport. After 15 days of receiving my new passport and not receiving my document back, I called the number I was given and was not able to reach anyone but a recorded message saying it will be mailed in four weeks. Four weeks passed and I got nothing. Eight weeks passed, still no certificate back. I decided it was time to get help. I reached out to Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s Office and immediately received a response from her Houston Office. A week or so after that, I received my Certificate of Naturalization, which I’d had since 1973. Without Congresswoman Fletcher’s Office’s help I think I would still be waiting for it. Thank you very much.”

We will be accepting applications for Spring 2023 internships for our Houston and DC offices. Applications are due December 2, 2022. Our interns have an opportunity to work closely with our team. It will be a busy week in Washington. The Congress will reconvene to take up several bipartisan bills, including many bills from the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee in to recognize Veterans Day and support our veterans, to recognize contributions of other citizens by naming federal buildings in their honor, to support disaster resiliency efforts, and to expand Medicare coverage for Lymphedema compression treatment items. The House will debate two Senate bills, the Speak Out Act, S. 4524, to limit the use of non-disclosure agreements with survivors of sexual harassment or assault, and the FIRE Act, S. 3092, to enable FEMA to respond more proactively to wildfires and to improve its relocation-assistance efforts for those living in fire-prone areas.

Newly elected Members will be in Washington for New Member Orientation this week, and I was glad to welcome our new representative for Texas’ 38th Congressional District on the flight to Washington! As you likely know, the Texas Legislature’s redistricting process and the creation of the new 38th Congressional District in Houston means that many current residents of our district will reside in another district next year, including the 38th. I will work with our new representatives and continue to work with all of my Houston and Texas colleagues on efforts important to our community, our state, and our country.
