Dear Neighbor,
This week, I am writing to you not about votes I have taken in Washington, but the votes each of us has taken or can take here at home.
This Tuesday is Election Day—an important day in our community and our country, a day where we practice democracy. Make a plan to vote and make your voice heard.
Voting is the very foundation of our democratic system. Our fellow citizens have fought and died to earn the right to vote, to defend this right, and to ensure this right. We must never forget their sacrifice, their courage, and their belief in an America of, by, and for the people. It is also essential that we, the American people, can trust the results of our elections and the actions of our elected officials. Our democratic process is sacred and must be protected.
In Congress, I have cosponsored several pieces of legislation to secure both the right to vote and access to the ballot box, including H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2021, H.R. 2358, the Voter Empowerment Act, and H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. I am committed to ensuring a fair and secure election process and will continue my support of legislation and other efforts to guarantee and protect this fundamental right and responsibility of citizenship.
This week, we come together to engage in democracy. And, we will also come together to celebrate our Astros! #LevelUp!
