Dear Neighbor,

At this time of Thanksgiving, I was glad to have the opportunity to spend time at home with loved ones and to reflect on many blessings. I am particularly grateful for the privilege of serving as your representative to the U.S. Congress. I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving.

This week, I was glad to be home, spending time with our team in Houston and getting out and about in the community. My last-minute trip to the grocery on Wednesday afternoon turned into a great chance to visit with constituents!

I was also glad to join SBA Houston District Director Tim Jeffcoat at the Dandelion Café in Bellaire and Courtney Barton Home Goods in Upper Kirby to highlight Small Business Saturday and discuss the ways their businesses have grown. Yesterday, Small Business Saturday gave us all a reminder to visit the many small businesses in TX-07 and support all they do for our community!

While we have had a chance to reflect on and celebrate so much good this week, my heart has also been heavy with news of more senseless gun violence, including shootings at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, and in a shopping district in Atlanta. I join people across the country who are mourning these brutal and senseless killings.

I will head back to Washington this week for a busy and productive final month of the 117th Congress. This week, the House will take up bipartisan bills address pressing issues facing our criminal justice system, H.R. 3372, the One Stop Community Reentry Program Act, and H.R. 6878, the Pregnant Women in Custody Act, which, if enacted, would institute a national standard for the provision of prenatal and post-delivery care to incarcerated women and their babies.

The House is also preparing to act on other important issues currently before the Senate, including the Respect for Marriage Act. The House is also preparing for the National Defense Authorization Act and for omnibus appropriations legislation to fund the government for the rest of fiscal year 2023, as the current Continuing Resolution expires December 16, 2022.
