Dear Neighbor,
As we approach Veterans Day next month, our minds turn to those who have served our country in our armed forces. And here in Houston, we have one of the largest military veteran populations in the country. We are so grateful for their service and their contributions to our community.
Congress has established services for the federal government to provide those who served in uniform, and our Veterans’ Affairs Committee oversees those services. Here at home, we have several important local government and community organizations that provide supplemental support.
This Congress has passed some important legislation to support our veterans – including the PACT Act to address health care needs of those exposed to toxic burn pits. Hearing about veterans experiences and needs is important information for me to take back to Washington as we continue our work.
That’s why I hope you will join us for our second Town Hall on Veterans’ Affairs this Monday, October 24, 2022, at 6:00p.m. in BakerRipley’s Reunion Hall. I have invited VA Houston’s Deputy Medical Center Director, Lindsey Crain, MHA, FACHE; Combined Arms’ Mia Garcia, Executive Director for Texas Veterans Network; and the City of Houston’s Director of Veterans and Military Affairs, Robert Dembo III, USN to discuss how we can best support our veterans.
