Every May, our community takes action to get ready for Hurricane Season, which begins June 1 and ends November 1. Now is a great time to stock up on necessary supplies, make sure you have a kit, know how to stay informed, and decide what your family’s plan will be if disaster does strike.

To get you started, I have compiled an interactive list of recommended resources in this one-page sheet, which can be viewed at fletcher.house.gov/hurricanes. It also includes information on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which I recommend you sign up for as soon as possible. To learn more about the NFIP and recent changes, you can watch our Community Conversation with an NFIP representative last fall here.

If we are fortunate, we may not need to use our kits at all—but I hope you will take this reminder to get ready so that we can keep our families safe if the worst does occur.
