Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes To Protect U.S. Elections from Foreign Interference

(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) voted to pass H.R. 4617, Stopping Harmful Interference in Elections for a Lasting Democracy (SHIELD) Act, a bill she co-sponsored, which requires campaigns to report offers of assistance from foreign actors to the FBI. The bill passed the House, 227 to 181.

“Protecting our elections is essential. Our government is of, by, and for the people – and must remain so,” said Congresswoman Fletcher. “Multiple reports have confirmed that foreign actors have sought to interfere in our elections, and will do so again. I am glad to see the SHIELD Act pass the House today and will continue to work to make sure our elections are secure, and that all Americans can exercise their right to vote.”

Congresswoman Fletcher co-sponsored H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which is a package of reforms to clean up corruption in Washington, fight big money in politics, and make it easier to vote. The bill passed the House in March. She is also an original co-sponsor of H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, which works to prevent voter suppression across the country.
