Internal Revenue Service

Refund Status, Replacement of Missing Refund, and more

Thank you for contacting my office regarding your request for assistance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The IRS maintains a webpage that offers detailed answers to a wide range of tax-related concerns.  Visit this site to find answers to frequently asked questions surrounding the agency.

Information about your refund request is typically available three weeks after e-filing or six weeks after filing by paper.  To check the status of your refund, you can use this portal or call the Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.

If you have lost or not received your refund check, call the Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.  If your refund check has not been cashed, the IRS can typically provide a replacement within six to eight weeks.  If your refund check has been cashed, the Financial Management Service (FMS) will provide a copy of the check and a Form 3911 Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund to initiate a claim.

If you have an ongoing issue with the IRS that has not been resolved through normal processes, or you have suffered or are about to suffer a significant hardship due to the application of tax laws, please contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 713-209-3660.

If your issues with the IRS have not been resolved through the previously mentioned channels, my office can assist you.  Below is a link to a Privacy Release Form, which authorizes my office to make a congressional inquiry on your behalf.  Please complete the form to proceed with your inquiry and upload any supporting documentation where applicable.  If this issue concerns a joint return, your spouse must also complete the Privacy Release form using the same email address.

If you have any further questions or if this is a time-sensitive matter, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (713) 353-8680.
