(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) is pleased to announce that Shirley Zhu is the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for her painting, “Shadow Under the Sun.”
Zhu’s painting will hang in the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for the next year with the artwork from other winners from each Congressional district across the United States.
“I am inspired by the work of such talented young artists in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Fletcher. “Congratulations to Shirley and thank you to all of the students who submitted their beautiful artwork.”
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors the Congressional Art Competition to highlight talented high school artists from across the country. The winner from each district will have their artwork displayed in the Capitol for one year. The competition first began in 1982 and more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
