(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement after a tragic shooting at Bellaire High School caused the death of a 19 year-old student: “My thoughts today are with the family and friends of the Bellaire student who was shot and killed on campus yesterday afternoon, as well as the students, faculty, and staff at Bellaire as they process this tragic event,” said Congresswoman Fletcher. “I am thankful for the quick response of our law enforcement personnel and local leaders. My office stands ready to provide the support necessary as we come together during this difficult time. “Last night’s events remind us that no community is immune from gun violence. As our community mourns this tragic loss, we must work together to make our communities safer by addressing the root causes of gun violence, working to prevent gun violence, and making sure our kids are safe at school. Public safety is the first responsibility of government. I will continue to work with elected officials, community members, and groups dedicated to advancing these efforts.” |
