Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Appointed to the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee

(Washington, DC) ­– Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) has been appointed to the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee by the Steering and Policy Committee. The Congresswoman joins a select group of freshman members on the Committee chaired by fellow Texan Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30). 

“I represent a district that believes in science, innovation, and facts.  I am honored to serve on a committee that is dedicated to advancing progress in those critical areas,” said Congresswoman Fletcher. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to promote the research and development that our country needs to advance our pursuit of technological, medical, and scientific innovation.” 

The Committee has jurisdiction over much of the non-defense Federal research and development (R&D) portfolio.  The Committee has exclusive jurisdiction over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).  The Committee also has authority over R&D activities at the Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
