Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) made the following statement following the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris: 

“Today is a historic and joyful day.  I was honored to be present to witness today’s ceremony on behalf of our district, and am eager to share the message of unity, optimism, and hope of President Biden’s address.  

“Recent events have challenged us all in different ways, and President Biden acknowledged this difficult moment while reminding us how we work through challenges: we do it together.  In his address, we saw leadership, compassion, and competence at a time when we need them most.

“I look forward to working for our district and for all Americans with a lifelong public servant like President Biden in the White House.  His decades-long dedication to improving the lives of people across our country, his proven track record of working with members of both parties, and his commitment to finding solutions to our country’s most pressing challenges with hope and healing provide not only a vision but also a path forward for our country.

“And it was a particular thrill to witness history as Vice President Harris was sworn in to her historic role as the first woman—and woman of color—elected to this office.  She, too, brings wisdom, experience, and vital perspectives to the highest levels of government.

“The challenges we face are unprecedented.  But today marks a new chapter for our country—and a renewed opportunity to show not only the world but also ourselves that we succeed when we embrace the power of the promise of America.  As our Youth Poet Laureate so beautifully reminded us today, not only can we each see the light, we can be it.”
