Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement on the escalating tensions in the Middle East: 

“Over the past few days, we have witnessed an escalation of violence and attacks directed at civilians that have resulted in the tragic loss of life.  My thoughts are with those living in fear and grieving the tremendous loss this violence has brought.

“The rocket attacks by Hamas against Israeli civilians cannot be justified and are a danger to all in the region—both Israelis and Palestinians.  Israel has a right to defend itself against these attacks. 

“These events remind us of the need for a permanent, diplomatic, two-state solution to the decades-long crisis.  It is my hope that the present situation can be resolved as peacefully and swiftly as possible.”
