Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes to Sanction Russia for Unprovoked War on Ukraine

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) voted for the bipartisan Suspending Energy Imports From Russia ActH.R. 6968, to ban Russian oil imports and implement further sanctions against Russia, holding President Vladimir Putin accountable for his unprovoked and unconscionable war againstUkraine.

“In this historic moment, the United States must respond to President Putin’s aggression with strength,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “Today, the House of Representatives voted to hold Russia accountable and isolate it further from the global economy by banning the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States.  Our energy independence makes it possible for us to take this action, and we must continue to ensure energy independence remains an American priority.”

The Suspending Energy Imports From Russia Act:

  • Bans the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States;
  • Takes steps to review Russia’s access to the World Trade Organization and explore how the U.S. can further diminish Russia’s influence in the global economy; and
  • Reauthorizes and strengthens the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so the U.S. can impose further sanctions on Russia for its violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
