ICYMI: Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Delivers $5 Million for Houston METRO Bus Route with Highest Ridership in Texas

  • 2.22 Westheimer BOOST Press Conference

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) held a press conference with Houston METRO to highlight $5,000,000 in federal funding that she secured through congressional appropriations for Houston METRO’s Westheimer BOOST Project.  Houston METRO Board Chair Sanjay Ramabhadran, Houston METRO President Tom Lambert, Westchase District Representative Jim Murphy, and Montrose Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Project & Planning Committee Chair Joe Webb joined Congresswoman Fletcher at the announcement.

“I am so proud to announce that Houston METRO will receive $5 million in federal funding I requested and obtained through congressional appropriations for the 82 Westheimer line, which runs right through the heart of Texas’ Seventh Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I was thrilled to partner with Houston METRO and other community partners to support this important work of making sure that transit and transportation across our community are accessible, affordable, and efficient so we can keep Houstonians moving.  I look forward to seeing the much-needed improvements to the 82 Westheimer line, and to continuing our work together for our district, city, and region.”

The funding will be used to improve the 82 Westheimer bus route, an east-west crosstown bus route with the highest ridership in the METRO system and in all of Texas, by creating a Westheimer BOOST corridor.  Improvements will consist of bus stop enhancements, new bus shelters, improved passenger information, and easier boarding platforms and safe all-door access.

Last year, Congresswoman Fletcher requested funding specifically for the Westheimer BOOST Project through the Community Funded Project process.  On December 23, 2022, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, a bipartisan government funding bill that funds essential programs, including the Westheimer BOOST Project.  President Biden signed the bill into law on December 29, 2022.

Congresswoman Fletcher also voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a historic bill which makes the largest, long-term investment in the country’s infrastructure in nearly a century.
