Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Announces More Than $40 Million for Flood Mitigation Efforts in Fort Bend County

Funding to help protect homes, schools, roads, highways, bridges, hurricane evacuation routes, levees, and parks

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) announced that Fort Bend County Levee Improvement District Number 7 (LID 7) will receive $44,973,750 in federal funding to stabilize the banks of the Brazos River.  This project funds approximately 4,631 structures (4,600 residential and 31 nonresidential), as well as a major hurricane evacuation route, levees, parks, roads, highways, and bridges.

“I was glad to work with Fort Bend County LID 7 to obtain more than $44 million in federal funding to stabilize the banks of the Brazos River and protect residents of the area,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “This funding will help protect critical infrastructure, including homes, schools, highways, and bridges.  I look forward to continuing to work with communities throughout the district and with FEMA to address our most pressing needs and to build a more resilient infrastructure.”

“I am thrilled that Fort Bend County Levee Improvement District Number 7 will receive more than $44 million for this important project in our community,” said Fort Bend County LID 7 Chair Cindy Picazo.  “I am grateful for Congresswoman Fletcher’s support of flood resiliency projects in Fort Bend County and I look forward to continuing to work together.”

In December, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, which appropriated funding to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist flood mitigation measures that reduce disaster loss, including the project mentioned above.
