Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher on Hostage Release in Gaza

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement after Israel and Hamas agreed to a deal to release 50 hostages in exchange for a four-day humanitarian pause and the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners:

“I welcome the deal to secure the release of 50 of the hostages taken during Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 of this year.  While there is much more work to be done, today’s diplomatic breakthrough is a relief to families and loved ones of the hostages, to Palestinian civilians in Gaza, to Israelis, and to people around the world affected by this war.

“People across Texas’ Seventh Congressional District care deeply about those impacted by the violence of war and providing humanitarian assistance to them; this deal will help make that possible.  I support President Biden’s efforts to secure the release of Americans held hostage by Hamas, his continued work to free all remaining hostages, and his request to Congress for supplemental funding to advance our national security priorities, including support for Israel’s defense against terrorism and providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.”
