Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes To Expel George Santos from Congress

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement after she voted for a resolution Providing for the expulsion of Representative George Santos from the United States House of Representatives, H.Res. 878:

“Members of Congress have a responsibility to act with the trust that is placed in us,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I voted to expel Representative Santos from Congress for the reasons set forth in the House Ethics Committee’s report and its conclusion that his conduct as a candidate and as a Member of Congress is beneath the dignity of the office and has brought discredit upon the House of Representatives.  As I continue to work on behalf of Texas’ Seventh Congressional District, I will continue to promote ethics, accountability, and transparency throughout our government.”

Last month, the House Committee on Ethics unanimously adopted its Investigative Subcommittee’s (ISC’s) report concluding that there was substantial evidence that Congressman Santos knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission; used campaign funds for personal purposes; engaged in fraudulent conduct; and engaged in knowing and willful violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to his Financial Disclosure Statements filed with the House.

Expulsion requires the yes votes of two-thirds of the body.  Today, H.Res. 878 passed by a vote of 311-114-2, expelling Congressman Santos from the House of Representatives.
