Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes Against Impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas
Washington, D.C.,
February 6, 2024
Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) voted against H.Res. 863, a resolution to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. “The effort to impeach Secretary Mayorkas represents a dramatic departure from more than two centuries of established precedent about the proper exercise of the extraordinary tool of the Impeachment Clause of the Constitution,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “Contrary to the resolution’s charges, there is no evidence that Secretary Mayorkas has committed high crimes or misdemeanors; rather, he has followed the law in good faith. “At the same time, my Republican colleagues are blocking a bipartisan effort to fix our broken immigration system and secure our borders. Rather than coming together to support meaningful, comprehensive solutions to fix our broken immigration system and ensure a more orderly and humane process at the border, House Republicans are grandstanding and performative politics are reflected in today’s meritless resolution.” |
