ACES Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher and Congressman Mark Amodei Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Reaffirming Strong U.S.-Canada Relationship

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) and Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-02), Co-Chairs of the American Canadian Economy and Security (ACES) Caucus, introduced a bipartisan resolution Reaffirming the deep and steadfast United States-Canada partnership and the ties that bind the two countries in support of economic and national security, H.Res. 1053.

“For more than a century, the United States and Canada have maintained a close partnership built on a foundation of shared democratic values,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I was glad to introduce this bipartisan resolution with Congressman Amodei to highlight the significance of the U.S.-Canada relationship to our economy and our national security.  As close trade partners and allies, I look forward to continuing to advance policies to support and strengthen this important relationship.”

As co-chair of the ACES Caucus, I know our countries are stronger together,” said Congressman Mark Amodei.  “Not only are we bonded by our shared international border – the world’s largest – we share interests in economic stability and national security. I am dedicated to working with my House and Senate colleagues to strengthen and reaffirm the U.S.-Canada alliance."

“I am very pleased to recognize the introduction of this Resolution which reinforces the value of Canada’s relationship with the United States,” said Canadian Ambassador to the United States Kirsten Hillman.  “Today more than ever, we must never take for granted the peace, the stability, and the enduring partnership that characterizes the strength of the Canada-U.S. relationship. The benefits of the bilateral relationship to our every day lives can be found in every U.S. district and across every province in Canada. I would like to thank Representatives Lizzie Fletcher and Mark Amodei, other co-sponsors, and all members of the American Canadian Economy and Security (ACES) Caucus, for their dedication to deepening the Canada-U.S. relationship. Together, we are more prosperous, more resilient, and more secure.”

Specifically, H.Res. 1053:

  • Reaffirms the U.S.’s commitment to maintain and grow the critical partnership between the U.S. and Canada;
  • Supports an increased focus on energy security through greater cross-border energy infrastructure, including infrastructure for oil, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy;
  • Recognizes the importance of strengthening supply chains between the two countries to make each country more competitive and resilient;
  • Reaffirms the commitment of the U.S. to strengthen cooperation on shared environmental and sustainability priorities; and
  • Recognizes that the security of one country is dependent on the security of the other, and welcomes greater collaboration in the areas of defense, cyber, and technology security.

Last year, Congresswoman Fletcher launched the ACES Caucus, a bipartisan, bicameral coalition dedicated to advancing policies that strengthen the economic and security relationship between the U.S. and Canada.

The U.S. and Canada have the largest market-based energy trading relationship. Canada is also the U.S.’s largest trading partner, with nearly $2.6 billion in goods and services crossing our shared border every day.
