Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Announces More Than 14,000 Matters Resolved on Behalf of Texas’ Seventh Congressional District Residents

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) announced that her office has successfully resolved more than 14,000 matters for residents of Texas’ Seventh Congressional District.  Her office assists residents with matters before federal agencies, including obtaining benefits from Social Security, Medicare, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as addressing matters before the Small Business Administration, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Internal Revenue Service, and others.

“Every day, our team of constituent advocates works to serve our constituents on matters of all kinds before federal agencies,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I am grateful to the residents of Texas’ Seventh Congressional District who have put their trust in me and my team to help resolve some of their most pressing problems.  I am proud of our team, and I look forward to continuing to serve our neighbors and helping our community in every way we can.”

Below are some testimonials from constituents Congresswoman Fletcher and her team have helped:

Social Security Administration (SSA)

“On February 2, 2022, I applied for Social Security retirement benefits at age 70.  After over a year and a half, I was told the application was still pending.  I made contact with several SSA staff on the phone and in person, and left messages for other SSA staff on over a dozen occasions.  I was unable to get my SSA retirement benefits and reached a dead end on my own.

“I contacted Rep. Lizzie Fletcher’s Office, and her [Senior Constituent Advocate] Fatimah was able to guide my problem from the dead end I reached to other sources at Social Security.  After several weeks, I received a call from a Social Security supervisor and the application was pulled out of archival and moved to completion.  I am very grateful for the assistance of Rep. Fletcher and her staff in cutting through normal bureaucracy and resolving my social security quandary.  Thank you.”

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

“I contacted Congresswoman Fletcher’s Office to request her help in expediting a process with USCIS.  I applied for employment authorization to go from an EAD card F1 STEM-OPT-based to a permanent resident/marriage-based one.  However, during this process, my contract with my prior employer ended and I had a great job offer for which I needed a new work authorization.  I tried expediting the process through USCIS due to severe financial loss, but I never received any response from USCIS.  I contacted Congresswoman Fletcher’s Office, and after providing the necessary evidence, they were able to help me with my case.  Within a couple of days after submitting my case to the office, they contacted USCIS.  In just one day, USCIS responded and my expedited request was approved.  After a couple of weeks I had a new EAD card in hand and I was able to start working.  I am extremely thankful for her help!”

Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

“After my father died in 2022, I tried to carry out my duties as executor for my six siblings and myself.  But I had a lot of trouble trying to get the rather large refund he was due for 2021 from the IRS.  Eventually he was owed yet another refund for 2022.  I couldn’t get any straight answers from the IRS as to why it was taking so long.  So I asked Lizzie Fletcher for help.  Two days later she had [Senior Constituent Advocate] Fatimah helping me, and within 2 months I had the large 2021 refund.  Then a couple months later I got the 2022 refund.  Thanks Lizzie and Fatimah!  I can finally (in 2024) settle my dad’s estate.”
