Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Co-Sponsors Resolution Affirming Support for Two-State Solution

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) became an original co-sponsor of a resolution “reaffirming the House of Representatives’ support of a two-state solution,” H.Res. 1074.  The resolution reads:

“Whereas Israelis and Palestinians have the right to live in safety and security and to enjoy freedom, dignity, and prosperity; and

“Whereas the House of Representatives is committed to ensuring the enduring peace and security of both Israelis and Palestinians: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the House of Representatives—

1.    Reaffirms the State of Israel’s right to exist, as a Jewish, democratic state;

2.    Recognizes Palestinians’ right to sovereignty and self-determination through a Palestinian state;

3.    Supports a two-state solution as the best path to achieve lasting peace; and

4.    Condemns all calls and actions that reject and undermine a two-state solution.”

On October 7, 2023, Congresswoman Fletcher condemned Hamas’ attack on Israel.  She also voted for a bipartisan resolution Standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists, H.Res. 711.  And, she co-sponsored and voted for a bipartisan resolution Calling on Hamas to immediately release hostages taken during the October 2023 attack on Israel, H. Res. 793.  She also signed a letter in October 2023 to Egyptian Ambassador Zahran urging the government of Egypt to facilitate the establishment of safe zones in southern Gaza and enable a steady supply of humanitarian aid into Egypt, which she has continuously requested.   

In November 2023, she voted for a bipartisan resolution Reaffirming the State of Israel’s right to exist, H.Res. 888.  She also co-sponsored a resolution, Condemning calls from Members of Congress for the expulsion of Palestinians from the United States, H.Res.895.  And she signed a letter to President Biden in February 2024, supporting the administration’s work with Israel, Egypt, Qatar, and allies to advance hostage negotiations, encourage a pause in hostilities to release hostages and provide aid to Gaza, and to advocate for a two-state solution.

In March 2024, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, H.R. 2882, which includes $50 million for the Nita M. Lowey Middle East Partnership for Peace Act programs to foster interpersonal and economic partnerships between Israelis and Palestinians.
