Quote du jour: Rep. Fletcher on FEMA funding

Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D-Houston) reiterated her push to fund a shortfall in federal disaster relief funds at Axios Houston's event on clean energy yesterday.

State of play: Earlier this month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency revealed it does not have enough funding to cover the rest of the hurricane season, even before the catastrophic Hurricane Milton formed in the Gulf of Mexico.

What they're saying: "They have to have the money," Fletcher said at the event in Houston. "They have to have the resources to do it."

"If we could go back and do it, I would, and I think that we should. Certainly I hope that we will be able to move a package as quickly as possible after November."

Between the lines: Fletcher and Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Houston) led a bipartisan effort Oct. 3 urging House leadership to take up the issue quickly.
