Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Statement Following Last Night’s Iranian Missile Attacks on Iraqi Military Base
Washington,
January 8, 2020
(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), issued the following statement after Iran launched missiles at an Iraqi military base housing American troops: “I am thankful that no Americans were harmed during last night’s Iranian missile attack, but I remain highly concerned by the series of events that have led our country into direct confrontation with Iran. Recent events have brought our country to the precipice of war and put our service members and Americans abroad at risk. “I attended a classified briefing on the situation earlier today, and I will continue to closely monitor the situation. While both President Trump and Iranian officials have signaled that they are not looking to escalate tensions further, there are still very real security concerns that our service members and Americans abroad face. Our nation’s foreign policy must be conducted in a manner that ensures the safety of our service members, Americans abroad, and innocent civilians.” |
