Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Outlines Priorities for New Infrastructure Legislation

(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, outlined her priorities to include in upcoming infrastructure legislation.  This followed Wednesday’s announcement by members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee, and Ways and Means Committee unveiled a “Moving Forward” framework for a five-year plan to address our country’s most urgent infrastructure needs.  Congresswoman Fletcher emphasized the need to invest in the nation’s water systems, flood protection and mitigation projects, and transit systems – all critical needs for the Houston region and Texas’ Seventh Congressional District.

“Our infrastructure is the foundation of our communities’ success and critical to our future.  In Houston, we know the positive impact that rebuilding and reinforcing existing infrastructure, building in a more resilient way to protect our communities, and upgrading our transit systems can have,” said Congresswoman Fletcher.  “This infrastructure framework presents an opportunity to build our country for the future.  I look forward to working in my capacity as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to secure wins for Houston.” 

Congresswoman Fletcher’s infrastructure priorities are outlined below:

Water Infrastructure:

  • Tackle the backlog of U.S. Army Corps of Engineer projects, including managing water conveyance projects in our bayous
  • Prioritize projects to enhance flood protection
  • Protect inland waterways

Harbor Infrastructure

  • Secure funding to maintain our harbors, including the Port of Houston

Transit Investment:

  • Increase funding for transit agencies in order to secure viable public transit options and help reduce congestion

Modern Highways & Highway Safety Investments:

  • Modernize highway infrastructure across the country
