Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Announces More than $2.4 Million for Congregation Beth Yeshurun

(Houston, TX) – Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) announced $2,410,414 in federal funding for Congregation Beth Yeshurun.  These funds are administered through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will be used to repair the synagogue from damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

“After Hurricane Harvey, Houstonians came together in an outpouring of compassion to help one another rebuild,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I’m very pleased to announce this federal funding for Congregation Beth Yeshurun to support them as they continue their recovery efforts.”

“This news came to us on a very special day, when the Jewish people worldwide observed the festival of Shavuot, to commemorate the blessing of receiving the Torah (the Law) at Mount Sinai. This grant is another welcome blessing which will aid in our journey to a full recovery from $6.5MM of flood damage and allow us to focus on our mission of spiritual growth,” said Andy Burger, Executive Director, Congregation Beth Yeshurun.

FEMA provided this funding through its Public Assistance Grant Program (PA), which provides grants after an official major disaster declaration. The purpose of PA is to help communities recover from and respond to disasters and emergencies. The PA for this project is authorized under Section 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.
