Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes in Support of Bipartisan National Defense Bill

(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) voted to pass the William M. Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021 to authorize funding for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) operations, programs, and personnel.  Congresswoman Fletcher’s bill to expand job training for service members through the DoD’s SkillBridge Program passed as an amendment to the NDAA.  The NDAA passed the House with bipartisan support, 295-125.

“I am pleased to see the NDAA pass the House today with bipartisan support with the inclusion of important provisions that will strengthen our national security and support our country’s service members,” said Congresswoman Fletcher.  “In addition to a much-needed pay raise for our troops, the bill includes my legislation to expand job training opportunities for our country’s service members, as well as provisions to increase accountability on the use of federal agents against American communities.”

The NDAA specifically includes:

  • A 3 percent military pay raise;
  • Congresswoman Fletcher’s legislation to expand job training opportunities for service members;
  • An amendment to require any federal law enforcement officer deployed through the Insurrection Act be clearly identified by name and agency visible on their uniform or other clothing;
  • An amendment requiring transparency when a President deploys active duty military within the United States pursuant to the Insurrection Act; and

  • Enhanced response to the COVID-19 through a $1 billion Pandemic Preparedness and Resilience National Security Fund.
