Today, the House Democratic Steering Committee nominated Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) to serve on the Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee. Her nomination will now go to the full Democratic Caucus for final approval.
“I am honored to be selected to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee to fight for the priorities that are important to Texas’ Seventh Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “Houston is the energy capital of the world—home to every segment of the energy sector, from traditional to renewable, and a hub for energy innovation. It is also home to some of the finest health care providers, researchers, and innovators institutions in the country, who are willing partners in our efforts to improve health care for all Americans.
“The matters of jurisdiction on the Energy and Commerce Committee define so much of what we do in our district. Throughout my first term in Congress, I have worked extensively on these matters, building bridges and connections between the district and the Congress to help address the most pressing challenges of our time. If confirmed, I look forward to bringing our district’s unique and vital perspective to the Committee.”
The E&C Committee has wide jurisdiction over critical issues including health care, energy, climate change, the environment, broadband and internet policy, as well as interstate and foreign commerce. Established in 1795, the committee is the oldest continuous standing committee in the House of Representatives.
