Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Applauds President Biden for Approving Major Disaster Declaration for Texas
Fletcher Led Texas Delegation Letter Calling on Biden Administration To Approve Disaster Declaration Assistance—Unlocking Key Federal Funds for Communities Impacted by Winter Storm
(Houston, TX) – Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) today applauded President Biden for so quickly approving Texas’ request for a major disaster declaration. This follows her letter calling on the administration to approve the request as quickly as possible and ensure communities impacted by the winter storm were eligible for federal assistance to help with recovery efforts.
“Recovering from this week’s winter storm disaster will be a long-term challenge for our community and across our state. Homes, businesses, hospitals, and critical infrastructure have all been affected by the prolonged power outages, record-low temperatures, and water damage,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “That’s why I called on the Biden administration to approve our state’s request for a disaster declaration quickly, and I am glad President Biden has done so. This is an important first step to getting the resources necessary to help our state recover and rebuild.”
Yesterday, Congresswoman Fletcher led the Texas Democratic delegation in urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to approve Texas’ request for a major disaster declaration. Congresswoman Fletcher was joined by Representatives Colin Allred (TX-32), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Lloyd Doggett (TX-35), Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), Al Green (TX-09), Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30) Marc Veasey (TX-33), and Filemón Vela (TX-34) in this letter.
