Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Attends NRG Mass Vaccination Site Preview
Houston,
February 23, 2021
Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) joined Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and other Houston leaders to unveil and preview the federally funded, state-managed, and locally run mass community vaccination center at NRG Park yesterday. “The opening of this NRG mass vaccination center comes at a critical moment for our community and our country, after we hit the grim milestone of half a million lives lost to COVID-19,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “This vaccination center represents our commitment to working together at the federal, state, and local levels to ensure our community has the support, resources, and relief it needs. Critically, it will help get more vaccines into the arms of Houstonians.” The NRG mass vaccination site is a part of the Biden administration’s plan to ramp up vaccine distribution across the country. The NRG mass vaccination site will serve 6,000 people per day, seven days per week for three weeks before transitioning to second doses for three weeks. A total of 142,000 individuals are expected to be fully vaccinated. The center will vaccinate people using the Harris County and City of Houston vaccination waitlists. To register for the county waitlist, visit the vaccination link on ReadyHarris.org or call 832-927-8787. To register for the City of Houston waitlist, people age 65 and older can call the city’s department Area Agency on Aging at 832-393-4301. In addition to the NRG mass vaccination site previewed today, two community health centers in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District, Legacy Community Health Services and Harris Health System, were selected to participate in the Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program. This program is a partnership between the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure hard-to-reach and disproportionately affected populations have access to vaccine delivery. The Health Center COVID-19 Vaccine Program provides a direct supply of COVID-19 vaccines to health centers that can serve these populations. Legacy Community Health Services is a participant in the program and Harris Health System has been invited to participate. |
