Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Hosts Telephone Town Hall on COVID-19 Vaccines

Yesterday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) hosted a COVID-19 Telephone Town Hall focused on vaccines.  Congresswoman Fletcher was joined by Dr. David Persse, Public Health Authority for the Houston Health Department; Mac McClendon, Director of Public Health Preparedness and Response for Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services; and David Gruber, Associate Commissioner of Regional and Local Health Operations for the Texas Department of State Health Services.  More than 1,000 constituents participated.

“Vaccines offer renewed hope in the fight against COVID-19, and every person vaccinated is one more step in the right direction,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “We are seeing an increased amount of vaccines in our community that are available because of a partnership between federal, state, and local governments, but it is critical that members of our community have the information they need about the different kinds of vaccines, the distribution process, and how to register to receive them.  I thank our panelists for providing helpful guidance and clarity for people across our district.”

As a member of the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee, Congresswoman Fletcher directly worked on provisions to establish a national vaccination program, expand national testing efforts, and ramp up health services for underserved communities in The American Rescue Plan Act.  This critical legislation to address the pandemic’s impacts and support communities across the country has passed the Senate and awaits final passage in the House of Representatives this week.

Last night’s town hall was Congresswoman Fletcher’s eighth telephone town hall focused on COVID-19 developments.  Since the beginning of the pandemic, she has hosted a total of 12 telephone town halls, including one last week to discuss the impacts of the Texas Winter Storm.  She has also hosted six Small Business Webinars in partnership with the Small Business Administration.  Congresswoman Fletcher will continue to hold telephone town halls and online meetings to connect with Texas’ Seventh Congressional District.
