Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Statement on GLO’s Decision to Omit Houston and Harris County from Federal Harvey Relief Funds

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) issued the following statement on the Texas State General Land Office’s (GLO) decision to omit the City of Houston and Harris County from the initial distribution of federal Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Program funds, provided to help with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts:

“The Texas GLO’s decision to award Houston and Harris County, the areas most affected by Hurricane Harvey, zero dollars in mitigation funds is outrageous.

This decision is an affront to our entire community, which has been working tirelessly to recover and rebuild after Harvey.  It also raises serious questions about the GLO’s entire process.

“I worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to expedite the delivery of these funds, and I will work with my colleagues and our community leaders now to fight for Houston and Harris County to get our fair share of the funds.”

Congresswoman Fletcher worked in Congress to unblock the funding from the previous administration’s Department of Housing of Urban Development.  Her bipartisan language to expedite the delivery of these funds was signed into law in June 2019.
