On Tuesday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) held a Community Conversation on the Omicron variant.  The event featured Dr. Peter Hotez, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine; Dr. David Persse, Chief Medical Officer for the City of Houston; and Scott Jeansonne, Interim Assistant Director for the COVID-19 Division at Harris County Public Health.  The group discussed ways to deal with the challenges the Omicron variant poses to our community and answered questions from attendees.

“As our community continues to feel the impact of the Omicron variant, I was glad to provide a setting for constituents to understand more about this variant and have their questions answered by local public health experts,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I will continue to do everything I can to ensure our community has the resources needed to get through the COVID-19 pandemic.  I am grateful for the work and the collaboration of Dr. Hotez, Dr. Persse, and Mr. Jeansonne and I thank them for joining our Community Conversation to provide critical updates and answer questions.”

More than 798,000 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Houston since the start of the pandemic, with positivity rates having reached 38 percent in recent weeks, marking an all-time high.
