Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Delivers Nearly $625,000 in Funding for Jersey Village Water Lines
Jersey Village,
May 5, 2022
Yesterday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) held a press conference to highlight $624,835 in federal funding that she secured in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, H.R. 2471. She was joined by Jersey Village Mayor Bobby Warren, State Representative Jon Rosenthal (TX-HD-135), Jersey Village Police Chief Kirk Riggs, Jersey Village Fire Chief Mark Bitz, and other Jersey Village community leaders. The funding will replace water lines for approximately 55 homes in Jersey Village, including new sewer lines for approximately 25 homes. Seattle Street will receive new storm sewer lines to help remove rain from streets to prevent street flooding and reduce the chance of home flooding on these blocks. The water lines will benefit areas that have experienced repeated flooding events and severe damage, including during the Tax Day and Memorial Day Floods and Hurricane Harvey. “The Jersey Village water lines project is a much-needed improvement in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District that will have a real impact on the people of this community,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “I am glad to bring these dollars back to our community for this important work and to partner with our community in this effort. Protecting our community from flooding and natural disasters is a collaborative effort, and I thank our community leaders joining me today for their partnership and leadership.” “We are grateful to Congresswoman Fletcher for securing this funding behalf of the citizens of Jersey Village,” said Mayor Bobby Warren. “This funding will allow us to continue to provide one of the basic functions of government while keeping the overall burden on the citizens reasonable.” “The Jersey Village water lines project is a vital flood mitigation project that our community needs to replace sewer and water lines, prevent street flooding, and protect families and their homes from future storms,” said Representative Jon Rosenthal. “I am grateful for Congresswoman Fletcher’s leadership in securing funding for and delivering on a top issue for our community.” Last year, Congresswoman Fletcher requested funding specifically for the Jersey Village water lines through the Community Funded Project process. On March 9, 2022, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, H.R. 2471, a bipartisan government funding bill that funds essential programs and projects, including the Jersey Village water lines and Meyergrove Detention Basin. President Biden signed the bill into law on March 15, 2022. In addition to securing nearly $625,000 for water lines, Congresswoman Fletcher also helped the City of Jersey Village quickly secure $4.23 million in November 2020 for the Wall St. Drainage Improvements & Berm project, another project to replace storm sewer lines. |
