Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Holds Town Hall on Veterans’ Affairs

  • 10.24 Town Hall on Veterans' Affairs

Yesterday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) held a town hall on veterans’ affairs to discuss the work Congress is doing and leaders in our community are doing to support the veteran community.  The event featured VA Houston Deputy Medical Director Lindsey Crain, MHA, FACHE; Combined Arms Texas Veterans Network Executive Director Mia Garcia; and City of Houston Office of Veterans and Military Affairs Director Robert Dembo III, USN.

“Houston is home to one of the largest military veteran populations in the country and we have a duty to serve our veteran community,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I was glad to convene this town hall and provide support for veterans and their families.  I am so grateful for the work of our panelists, and I look forward to continuing to work together to honor veterans’ contributions to our country.”

In September, Congresswoman Fletcher’s bill, the Advancing Uniform Transportation Opportunities (AUTO) for Veterans Act, H.R. 3004, passed the House.  This bill expands the eligibility for disabled veterans to obtain vehicles modified for their disabilities.

Earlier this year, she voted for the Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, H.R. 3967, to ensure and expand benefits for all veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances.  Shortly after, President Biden signed the bill into law.

And in January, she voted for the Guard and Reserve G.I. Bill Parity Act, H.R. 1836, to ensure National Guard and Reserve servicemembers have the same access to G.I. Bill benefits as their active-duty counterparts.
