Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Attends Buffalo Speedway Project Ribbon Cutting, Highlights Federal Funding To Reduce Flooding

By: Alex Wang Houston, TX Yesterday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) attended the Buffalo Speedway Project Ribbon Cutting with West University Place Mayor Susan Sample, City Council Members and other community leaders. The project replaced the road surface on Buffalo Speedway from Bissonnet to Bellaire and made major drainage improvements. During the ribbon cutting, Congresswoman Fletcher highlighted the partnership between West U and the federal agencies that made the project possible, and the new $9.8 million in federal funding that she secured for the Poor Farm Ditch water conveyance channel restoration and construction, which will build on the Buffalo Speedway Project¡¯s improved drainage system. “I was glad to join Mayor Sample and West University leaders in celebrating the completion of this important project”, said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “I am proud to represent West U in Washington and to partner with community leaders to bring improvements to the city. I was glad to help secure $9.8 million in federal funding for Poor Farm Ditch conveyance improvements, which will build on the important drainage improvements in the Buffalo Speedway Project. I look forward to continuing to work together for our community.” Last year, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, a bipartisan government funding bill that provides more than $31.1 million for fifteen local projects that Congresswoman Fletcher requested through the Community Funded Projects process. Included in those fifteen projects was $9.8 million for Harris County Flood Control District Poor Farm Ditch water conveyance channel restoration and construction.
