Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will award the Texas Department of Transportation $1,600,000 to replace old transit buses in Fort Bend County with modern and zero-emission buses, manufactured by American workers. The announcement comes after Congresswoman Fletcher wrote a letter to the Biden-Harris administration advocating for this funding to improve and modernize public transportation and infrastructure in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District. “I am thrilled that the Biden-Harris administration will award $1.6 million to modernize and improve transit buses in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “This investment will help lower emissions, strengthen our economy, and improve and modernize our public transportation system. I was glad to vote for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—the largest infrastructure investment in nearly a century—which made this award possible—and to advocate for this funding for Fort Bend from the Biden-Harris administration.” "Texas' Rural Transit Districts are crucial to our state's rural communities, providing vital connections to jobs, healthcare, education, and essential services,” said Fort Bend County Judge KP George. “The transit systems are lifelines for many of our residents. The Texas Department of Transportation's efforts to replace transit vehicles and enhance bus facilities through the Bus and Bus Facilities Grant will bolster efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring rural residents have reliable access to transportation. I urge all stakeholders to prioritize and support this critical initiative." “Congresswoman Fletcher is a powerhouse and we in Fort Bend County are grateful for her leadership in ensuring our rural residents stay connected to opportunity,” said Fort Bend County Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy. “The U.S. Department of Transportation’s grant for bus and bus facilities in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District is going to help our families and neighbors access the reliable and affordable transportation needed to move forward in the 21st century.” “Upgrading the County’s bus fleet and improving access to transportation services are critical to many county residents who rely on Fort Bend Transit to access vital services,” said Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers. “I appreciate Congresswoman Fletcher’s leadership and assistance obtaining the Bus and Bus Facilities grant, which provides for new buses and improved transportation facilities.” In 2021, Congresswoman Fletcher voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which funded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning to improve public transportation throughout the United States. The funding announced today stems from the Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning. For more information on this announcement, click here. |
