Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement on President Trump’s sweeping tariff announcement on virtually all U.S. trading partners.

“President Trump promised he would lower costs on day one. Instead, he has imposed massive tariffs, which even the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board says is one of the largest tax increases in American history.  Tariffs are taxes.  Tariffs are taxes that American families—not foreign countries—pay.  Yesterday’s sweeping tariff announcement that tariffs on our top trading partners, estimated to bring in $600 billion a year, makes clear that prices will go up on goods Americans use every day, including food, clothes, gas, electronics, cars, furniture, building supplies, and more.  This new Trump Tax is not strengthening our economy or helping make life more affordable for Americans.  It is doing the opposite.”
