Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Highlights Texas Legislature Public Hearings in Houston on Redistricting

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) shared information about the Texas Legislature’s public redistricting hearings.  She plans to testify at both the House and Senate hearings.

On Monday, the Texas Legislature convened its special session with Congressional redistricting on its 30-day agenda.  While neither the Senate nor the House has introduced the official proposed new congressional map, their committees are convening public hearings on redistricting this week.

“With President Trump’s announcement that he wants Texas to redraw the congressional map so that Texas will send five more Republicans to Congress and five fewer Democrats, districts across the state will have to be reconfigured, including Texas’ Seventh Congressional District,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “I plan to testify at the House hearing in Houston and the virtual Senate hearing, and I want to share that people across our community can too.  This mid-decade redistricting effort is an attack on the citizens of Texas and on our right and our ability to choose the people we want to represent us at the ballot box.”

Members of the public can testify in-person at the Texas State House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the University of Houston’s Main Campus, Student Center, Room 220.

Members of the public can testify virtually at the Texas State Senate Special Committee on Congressional Redistricting on Monday, July 28 at 3:00 p.m.  To sign up, visit the Texas Senate Special Committee on Redistricting website.

Testimony is limited to two minutes per person.

Members of the public can also submit written comments at comments.house.texas.gov or the Texas Senate Special Committee on Redistricting website.
