Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher and Texas Democratic Congressional Delegation Urge Governor Abbott To Set Runoff Election Date Immediately

Governor Abbott has denied the people of Texas’ 18th Congressional District representation in Congress for more than 250 days

Yesterday, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) and the Texas Democratic Delegation sent a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott requesting that he set a date for the runoff election for Texas’ 18th Congressional District as soon as possible, as he is required to do by law.

“All Texans and all Americans deserve representation in our government,” the members wrote.  “This is a bedrock principle of our democracy.  As Governor, it is your constitutional duty to set this election date in a timely manner.  It is time to finally give the constituents of Texas's 18th District the voice they deserve.  We urge you to promptly schedule the runoff and fill the seat as soon as possible.”

Congressmembers Greg Casar (TX-35), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), Al Green (TX-09), Julie Johnson (TX-32), and Marc Veasey (TX-33) joined Congresswoman Fletcher in the letter request.
