(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) issued the following statement after argument before the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Texas v. United States, a case the State of Texas has led seeking to invalidate the Affordable Care Act, which the Trump Administration has supported by failing to defend the law.
“What we saw in the argument before the Fifth Circuit, and what we see in this case at every level, should concern every American who cares about access to health care—especially coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. In my district, concerns about access to affordable health care are paramount, as are concerns with the uncertainty that this lawsuit brings for patients and providers alike. “Texans deserve better. While our state is bringing this challenge to our health care, I am working in Congress to protect our care, to ensure coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, and to bring down costs for everyone, from premiums to prescription drugs.” The 116th Congress has passed ten bills to bring down the price of prescription drugs, expand access to affordable health care, protect coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions, and support women’s reproductive rights. Congresswoman Fletcher has long been an advocate for accessible and affordable health care. She is a co-sponsor of H. Res. 14, introduced by Colin Allred (TX-32), condemning the Trump administration’s attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act in federal court. Fletcher is a member of the New Democrat Coalition Task Force on Health Care, which is focused on developing and advancing policies to improve our health care system, reduce costs, increase choices for consumers, modernize regulations, reduce burdens for small businesses, and expand coverage. |
