(Houston, TX) –Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) issued the following statement after Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a new order, “Stay Home, Work Safe,” for residents to stay at home to fight the spread of COVID-19:

“Public safety is the first responsibility of government.  I support efforts to keep our residents safe through the “Stay Home, Work Safe” order announced this morning by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.  I thank them for their leadership.

“At this time of great uncertainty, I am grateful to our community leaders, our medical professionals, our first responders, and our law enforcement officers who are working tirelessly to keep us safe.

“I will continue to work with members of Congress—Democrats and Republicans—to respond to this public health crisis and its many impacts on our community and our economy with thoughtful legislation and advocacy to address our immediate and long-term needs.

“Each of us has the opportunity and the responsibility to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 and slow its spread.  And I know we in Houston and Harris County will rise to this challenge, as we have so many before.”
