Today, the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus announced that Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) will serve as Whip of the Pro-Choice Caucus, a coalition of Members in the U.S. House of Representatives who are working to preserve, protect, and advance policies that ensure reproductive autonomy. The Pro-Choice Caucus is led by co-Chairs Diana DeGette (CO-01) and Barbara Lee (CA-13). “I am proud to be appointed Whip of the Pro-Choice Caucus, where I will help lead the fight against anti-abortion legislation and advocate for policy protecting the reproductive health of women across our community and our country,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher. “I look forward to working under the leadership of Pro-Choice Caucus co-Chairs Diana DeGette and Barbara Lee, as we work to protect the health, equality, and dignity of all Americans.” "Representative Lizzie Fletcher is a fierce advocate in Congress for reproductive rights, not only for the people of Texas, but for all our constituents across America," said Pro-Choice Caucus co-Chairs Rep. Diana DeGette and Rep. Barbara Lee. "As co-Chairs of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, we are proud to welcome her to the Caucus leadership team. We look forward to working alongside her to do what the voters sent us here to do: defend reproductive freedom, expand abortion access, and keep health care decisions in the hands of patients and providers, not politicians." Congresswoman Fletcher has led efforts to protect access to abortion. Last year, her bill to protect the right to travel for abortion, the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom, H.R. 8297, passed the House. She has introduced legislation challenging the bounty system created in Texas Senate Bill 8 and, along with Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), introduced the Reproductive Health Travel Fund Act, H.R. 8452, to establish a grant program to help ease the financial burden of people who are being forced to travel to access abortion care. Congresswoman Fletcher was an original cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which establishes a statutory federal right to abortion free from medically unnecessary restrictions. |
