Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Joins Vice President Kamala Harris To Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) joined Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House’s commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision in Tallahassee, Florida, a battleground state in the fight for abortion access.

“I was honored to join Vice President Harris in Florida today as she delivered an important, inspiring speech about our commitment to the liberty of all Americans,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “It was fitting on this anniversary to celebrate the courage of those who have fought for our rights and freedoms, from the Texas women who challenged our state’s abortion ban more than 50 years ago in the case of Roe v. Wade to those who are providing reproductive health care today under difficult circumstances.  I share Vice President Harris’ commitment to protecting the health, liberty, dignity, and privacy of women and families across our country, and I thank her for her leadership.”

Congresswoman Fletcher is a leader in the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus and has led several efforts to protect access to abortion.  Last year, her bill to protect the right to travel between states to access care, the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, H.R. 8297, passed the House.  She has introduced legislation challenging the bounty system created in Texas Senate Bill 8 and, along with Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), introduced the Reproductive Health Travel Fund Act, H.R. 8452, to establish a grant program to help ease the financial burden of people who are forced to travel to access care.  Congresswoman Fletcher was an original cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which establishes a statutory federal right to abortion free from medically unnecessary restrictions.
