Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Joins President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden in Houston

Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) joined President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as they visited Houston in the aftermath of the Texas Winter Storm.  President Biden’s trip to Houston is the first presidential visit to a state following a major disaster.  Their visit today included stops at the Harris County Office of Emergency Management, the Houston Food Bank, and the NRG Park mass vaccination center.

During President Biden’s visit, Congresswoman Fletcher thanked him for sending federal funding, resources, and support to the Houston region and communities across Texas during and after last week’s winter storm—resources that will continue to be vital to ongoing recovery efforts.

“President Biden was the leader we needed in response to last week’s devastating storm—his commitment to helping the people of Texas quickly and completely have been evident since the storm was forecast,” said Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher.  “The President and the First Lady’s visit to Houston was a demonstration of that commitment, to Texans and to all Americans in need.

“He has demonstrated his commitment and compassion for all Americans in this moment.  And that is why it was particularly meaningful to end the day at the mass vaccination center at NRG Park.  It represents a true partnership of federal, state, and local government working together and I was honored to join fellow Texans today in showing him the result of our strong partnership.”

Congresswoman Fletcher previously called on the Biden administration to approve the major disaster declaration as requested by the state of Texas.  She is leading an probe by the House Energy and Commerce Committee into the state’s inadequate preparation and response to the weather crisis, and she is calling on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to investigate the grid failures from last week and work with Congress on the possibility of limited transfers during emergencies.  Congresswoman Fletcher previewed the NRG Park mass vaccination center earlier this week with Houston leaders.
